Queen City United of Regina, Saskatchewan will join the UWS West
METUCHEN, NJ – The Board of Directors of Queen City United and United Women’s Soccer (UWS) are pleased to announce that the club has been awarded a franchise in the national pro-am league and will compete in the West Conference. UWS has accepted Queen City United of Regina, Saskatchewan for the 2019 season pending approval from Canada Soccer, US Soccer Federation, CONCACAF and FIFA.
“We are pleased to accept Queen City United as our second team in Canada as we continue to maintain our strategy of seeking organizations throughout North America that meet our professional standards,” said UWS Commissioner Joe Ferrara, Jr.
“I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunities and experiences that our participation in UWS will provide for players,” said Queen City United Director of Club Operations Hugh Dooley.
Queen City United Soccer Club was established during the indoor season of 1987-88. The club was the culmination of two teams coming together: the Regina Spurs and the Regina Steelers. Presently, the club has roughly 350 athletes that range in age from 4 years to 18 years, both male and female.
Off the field, the club strives to provide players the environment in which they can reach their individual potential. And, as the club moves towards its 30th anniversary, it is now the oldest active youth club within the city of Regina.
A Saskatchewan-based UWS franchise will provide a tremendous opportunity for female soccer athletes – from the region and beyond – to continue their evolution as elite players. With the addition of this calibre of play to their club, current and future QC United athletes will witness a real picture of what can be attained through their dedication and hard work.
Further details will be forthcoming. Queen City United will be the second UWS franchise based in Canada, following Calgary Foothills Women’s FC who won the UWS West title this past season. For more information on Queen City United, visit their official website at QCSoccer.ca.
