Canadians Go High in MLS Draft

Three Canadians drafted in the top 10 of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft

Canadian content was on display at 2019 MLS SuperDraft with three Canadians being the most ever drafted in the top ten. FC Dallas drafted young Canadian Callum Montgomery with the fourth overall pick. Ajax, ON native and Canada Soccer’s Men’s U-20 National Team goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair was drafted seventh overall to Minnesota United. Brampton, ON native Tajon Buchanan from Mississauga SC went to New England Revolution with the ninth pick. As part of MLS and Canada Soccer’s Homegrown Player initiative, all three players will be eligible to play as domestics league-wide.

A British Columbia native, Montgomery was developed at the Vancouver Island Wave and joins pornogratis Brampton, ON native Cyle Larin, and Oakville, ON’s Kyle Bekker as the only Canadians to be drafted in the top five into Major League Soccer.
 
St. Clair and Buchanan, who developed at Ajax FC and Mississauga SC, respectively, will enter Major League Soccer as Generation adidas Canada athletes.
