The PEI Soccer Association in partnership with the PEI SUBWAY Youth Soccer League will be adjusting the SUBWAY Under 16 Boys First Division to a SUBWAY Under 17 Boys First Division as a pilot project for 2014. This new division will be for players born in 1999, 1998 and 1997.
The aim of the pilot project is to see if it can have an impact on player retention of males born in 1997. Past years has shown that large numbers of boys graduating from the Under 16 age group have not re-registered the following year for the Under 18 age group. The new division will resemble the age bracket for the upcoming high school fall soccer program and therefore, provide for good player development heading into the fall school season.
The new league structure will play games only on Thursday evenings. Most teams at this level practice one other day of the week and that session is scheduled based on the availability of the players.
