Canada opened with a 2:1 win over Korea Republic on the opening day of the BaoAn Cup Women’s International Football Tournament Shenzhen 2015. Canada reversed an 0-1 start with a pair of second-half goals in the 11 January win.
Janine Beckie, in her second match, and Kadeisha Buchanan were the two goal scorers. Yue Minji scored in the first half for Korea Republic.
“That’s a strong as a performance as I’ve seen these players put in over a sixty-minute period,” said Canadian coach John Herdman. “It bodes well – I’m really happy, it showed some real resilience in coming back.”
The January four-nations tournament features Canada, Korea Republic, Mexico and host China PR. All four national teams will play each other once, so the nation with click here the most points after three matches will win the tournament. All four teams are also preparing for this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, with both Canada and China PR in Group A, Korea Republic in Group E, and Mexico in Group F.
