The numbers tell some of the story.

A season-low six shots for the Impact — including two on target — from only 44 per cent ball possession. With those numbers, one might think the Impact played an opponent stronger than the winless Chicago Fire — and away from home — last weekend. The overall showing from Montreal against the Fire can be described as fragmented and lacking cohesion. Alarmingly, despite not playing for a week, the disjointed Impact also looked jaded and lethargic.

But how could that be, especially on home soil?
