Canadian youth teams are struggling in the sun and heat of this year’s Dallas Cup tournament. Five teams have managed just two wins in games so far with both wins coming for Ottawa South United in the U17 Division.
OSU have recorded back to back shut outs with a 4-0 win over Texas’ Andromeda Red followed by a tight 1-0 against Cicero Mayas from Illinois. In other U17 action the Toronto Lynx have dropped both their games losing 3-2 to FC Dallas in their opener and dropping a 2-0 loss to the IMG Academy in game two. Both teams finish up group play on Wednesday with games against California sides OSU facing FC Golden State Diamond and Toronto playing Juventus SC CRS Elite.
Thunder Bay Chill Soccer Club boys U16s, Ontario Cup Champions in 2013, have gotten off to a tough start at the Dallas Cup losing their opening two games by lopsided scores to Texas and Georgia club teams.
Solar Chelsea handed the Chill Reserves a 7-0 hammering in their opening game and unfortunately for the Canadians things got even worse in game two as they went to Georgia’s Concorde Elite 8-0. The team wraps up their tournament tomorrow with a game against FC Golden State from California.
Things have gone better for the Vardar Canada Academy out of Oakville in the same U16 Division as the team bounced back from a 2-0 loss to the Dallas Tigres to battle to a 1-1 draw with New Jersey’s TSF Academy. Vardar finishes group play against FC Los Angeles on Wednesday.
In the U15 Division the Mississauga Falcons were shut out in their opening two games losing 4-0 to the Davis Legacy SC in their opener and dropping game two 3-0 to the McAllen Dynamo Stx Academy from South Texas.
Coach Dave Colistro will be leading the Chill U17 Girls into the Dallas International Girls Cup starting Wednesday when they kick off their first of three games against Texas opponents in the U16 Group.
Two other Canadian sides will be in tournament’s U14 Division at both Ottawa South United and Whitby Iroquois teams will face primarily Texan opposition at the girls showcase.
Next weekend The Chill Reserve Males (U18’s) will travel to and compete in the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Showcase.The 2014 edition will include boys and girls ages U-15 through U-18 competing in a championship game format on April 17 to 20 at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey BC. The Chill are the only Ontario based team involved in the tournament.
